Bright Paper Packages Tied Up With String…

Today I have a little project for you to help with the holiday season! Make these simple gift tags in about 15 minutes. (It’ll look like you put in way more effort than you actually did.)

Kitchen Twine Gift Tags

This is a pretty simple project. Simple, but messy!

You will need:

-Kitchen Twine (I got mine at Paper Source), Yarn, or Kite String

-40z Elmer’s Glue

-1/2 Cup of Cornstarch

-1/4 Cup of Warm Water

-Waxed Paper

-Cookie Sheet

Mix together glue, cornstarch, and water. (I’ve storedĀ mine in an old cottage cheese container for over a month now and it’s still perfectly good.)

You can freehand the letters, but I prefer having a template. If you’re like me, print out the desired name and place it on the cookie sheet, under the waxed paper.

Template under waxed paper

This is a messy project, so I put down a layer of paper towels, and keep a damp one near me at all times in this project!

assembled ingredients

Dip the kitchen twine into the glue mixture, and run it through your fingers to remove the excess glue.

Glue bath

Start laying the twine over your letter template. Remember, the template is just a guideline.

When you are done, you can let the word rest for a day to dry, or , if you’re impatient like me, throw it in the oven on the lowest heat for a half an hour.

...And now we wait for it to dry...

When the name is dry, carefully peel it off of the waxed paper. There may be some globs of clear glue visible; you can just chip those away.

A completed name

And ta-dah! You’re done!

This project would be great for place cards on a dinner table, or for hanging ‘Mr.’ and ‘Mrs.’ on the back of a chair at a wedding!
